An international year of prayer for
Morocco
| Week 14 |
RainMorocco has a continuous drought cycle that regularly afflicts the nation. Rural areas tend to be hardest hit by drought but because agriculture produces much of the GDP drought affects the whole economy.Due to an extended drought there has been much prayer aimed at seeing Morocco blessed with sufficient rainfall for agricultural and domestic needs. Recently there have been ideal rains in the North of the country and along some of the coastal plains. In these areas the levels in reservoirs reached the highest they have for many years. This will ensure good crops and a harvest for the year for farmers in those regions. It is the promise of an income for the many families that rely upon what are effectively subsistence agricultural techniques. Things in the central and southern portions of Morocco however are very different. After years without rain the land has become as dry as ever. Most rivers stop flowing. There have been years with no visible snow on the mountains that should otherwise provide regular water flow into surrounding areas year round as it melts. Many reservoirs and wells are dried up or at very low levels so there is no safety net for the many who are dependent on local water sources. "Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat!" Isaiah 55:1 "The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands." Deuteronomy 28:12a
