An international year of prayer for Morocco

Week 16

Walls

Walls symbolize fear! In centuries past, Moroccan sultans built massive walls around Fes, Meknes, Marrakesh, Rabat, Tangier and many other Moroccan cities and towns to protect them from attack. The imposing gateways to these older areas often display elaborate decoration believed to ward off evil spirits.

Walls are barriers usually set up to protect what is inside from what is outside. Barriers in Morocco may be made of many things: packed earth, stone, cactus, cane poles, cement block, lumber, dried brush, etceteras.
Barriers may also be natural such as mountains, chasms, and rivers. Or they may be invisible.
There are many beliefs that act as barriers to a Muslim becoming a Christian. Muslims do not believe Jesus is the Son of God and consider this idea to be blasphemous. They are taught that Christ did not die on the cross but that it only appeared so and that another was crucified in his place. Muslims believe that Jesus foretold the coming of Mohammed in the Gospel of John. This belief results from interpreting the original Greek word paracletos (comforter) as periclytos (praised one), the meaning of the name Mohammed.

Muslims do believe the Books of Moses, the Psalms of David, and the Gospels of Jesus were divinely inspired. However, any differences between them and the Islamic holy book the Qur'an are attributed to errors or changes in the Bible. This adamant assertion ends many discussions. Walls may protect but can also imprison. For a dozen centuries Islam has ruled Morocco, creating walls

around people's hearts that "protect" them against any other belief. In the process it has imprisoned them.

"For He himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall
of hostility." Ephesians 2:14

Pray God will tear down the walls that keep people from receiving the Gospel.
Pray for those seeking to reach Moroccans to have wisdom and discernment in dealing with the objections Muslims have to the Gospel message.
Pray that as Jesus sets the Moroccan captives free their joy would over
